DUP Brexit position continues to be a monumental error - Murphy
Responding to comments by the DUP’s Arlene Foster today Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy said:
“The denial of rights enjoyed by citizens everywhere else on these islands is untenable.
“If the issues which brought about the collapse of the political institutions are to be resolved in line with the Good Friday and other agreements then all roads must lead to the negotiating table.
“Sinn Féin wants to achieve genuine power-sharing based on integrity, respect and equality.
“This means resolutions rather than recriminations, and political leadership which serves the whole community rather than only certain sections at the exclusion of minority groups and citizens which is unjust and unsustainable.
“On Brexit the DUP set its face against the wishes of the majority of the people of the north who voted to remain in the EU.
“The DUP is continuing to show a blatant disregard for the needs and interests of our economy, our business, community and agri-food sectors.
“This is a monumental error.
“There is an onus on the Irish government and the EU 27 to ensure that the bottom lines around no hard border, the protection of the Good Friday Agreement and citizens’ rights are met.
“The four pro remain parties will continue to represent the voice of the majority here, and will meet business and industry representatives on Monday at Stormont.”
