‘DUP willing to crash the economy’ – O’Neill
The British Government’s own economic analysis confirms the absurdity of the DUP's position on Brexit, Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Michelle O’Neill has said.
Michelle O’Neill was commenting after the British Treasury’s scenario planning was published today showing that all forms of Brexit would leave the economy in a worse position than remaining in the EU.
She said: “The British Government’s own analysis again underlines what Sinn Féin has been saying all along – there is no good Brexit.
“Under every possible scenario, the British economy is going to sustain immense damage. That will be amplified and multiplied in the North of Ireland due to our particular circumstances, our reliance on north-south trade and the key role that Europe has played here.
“Brexit is economic vandalism and it beggars belief that the DUP is still prepared to crash our economy in pursuit of a reckless unionist agenda.
“The DUP should look at the evidence. They should listen to the business community. They should listen to the farming community. And they should listen to the cross-community majority here who voted against Brexit.
“Rather than continuing to deny and distract, the DUP should accept that – while there is no good Brexit – the withdrawal agreement is the least worst option available.”
