‘US court case reveals mesh scandal’ - Flynn

28 November, 2018 - by Órlaithí Flynn

Internal emails by one of the world’s largest companies manufacturing mesh implants reveal that a product it sold was known to be faulty,” Sinn Féin MLA Orlaithi Flynn has said.

The West Belfast MLA was commenting after the emails emerged as part of a court case in America.

She said: “The emails were among documents submitted to a US court as part of a case taken by a woman injured by mesh. There were serious concerns about this product but the company put it on the market without seeking proper approval.

“The court documents also expose a million-dollar payment to a doctor who lobbied on behalf of the product. The pursuit of profit rather than the well-being of patients was prioritised and thousands of women have paid the price of life changing injury and pain. The scandal of mesh must end.”
