‘Audit report shows need for Health transformation’ - Gildernew

18 December, 2018 - by Colm Gildernew

A new report by the Audit Office underlines the need for a properly funded, meaningful transformation to cope with the immense demands on the health and social care service, Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has said.

Commenting on the publication of the ‘General Report on the Health and Social Care Sector’, the party’s spokesperson for Carers said:

"Demands on the health service are increasing year-on-year as a result of inflation and an ageing population. According to the Audit Office the health and social care budget in 2017/18 fell short of meeting these demands by more than £160m.

"Increasing pressures in the system have meant waiting time targets are not being met, despite some targets having been reduced. This is not acceptable.

"In order to deliver a health and social care system that will achieve better outcomes for people a strategic approach to transformation, as set out by former Minister for Health Michelle O'Neill in the Delivering Together plan, is needed.”
