O’Dowd criticises closure of local Electoral Office

19 December, 2018 - by John O'Dowd

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has expressed his dismay at the Electoral Office’s decision to close local electoral offices in order to centralise the service they provide to Belfast.

The Upper Bann MLA was speaking after it was announced that the Banbridge Electoral Office will close on Friday 21 December.John O’Dowd said:“I have grave concerns about the closure of local electoral offices. “Electoral offices play a key role in ensuring people can exercise their democratic right by enabling them to register to vote, obtain an ID card and access Postal or Proxy votes.“These closures will impact on all of that. This does not represent good planning or practice and could have a negative impact on the democratic process in several constituencies.“Sinn Féin will be seeking an urgent meeting with the Electoral Office to discuss this matter.”
