DUP slammed after Bombardier Brexit warning
A warning by Bombardier’s parent company demonstrates how one of the North’s biggest employers is jeopardised by the DUP’s reckless Brexit agenda, Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has said.
The South Down MP was commenting after the Chief Executive of Airbus, which owns 50.1% of the Bombardier C Series business, blasted ‘Brexiteers madness’ and warned that the company ‘could be forced to redirect future investments’ in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
Chris Hazzard commented: “Thousands of people are employed at the Bombardier plant in Belfast and it has had enough difficulties in the past without the DUP creating more through its reckless approach to Brexit.
“Here we have the boss of one of the North’s biggest employers stating quite clearly that future investment is being jeopardised by those who are leading us all towards a no-deal Brexit.
“The DUP and their allies in the extreme Brexiteer camp of the Tory Party are responsible for this.
“They have rejected a Withdrawal Agreement that broadly includes the kind of assurances that business has been seeking and they continue to ignore the warnings from our business community about the economic catastrophe they are inviting.
“Instead they pursue a reckless and ideological position in which the needs of our economy and the livelihoods of thousands of workers in manufacturing plants like Bombardier are little more than collateral damage.”
