New Muckamore abuse claims ‘deeply concerning’ - Gildernew
News that a second Trust review into fresh allegations of abuse at Muckamore Abbey hospital is deeply concerning, Sinn Féin spokesperson for carers and well-being Colm Gildernew MLA has said.
The Fermanagh-South Tyrone MLA said: "News of a second Serious Adverse Incident (SAI) review being carried out on the back of fresh allegations of abuse in Muckamore is deeply concerning.
"This review is also a Level 3 SAI investigation which concerns the most serious cases.
"The Trust have not clarified the potential timing of the alleged abuse or what part of the facility it concerns.
"However, it does indicate that the serious concerns regarding the treatment and care of vulnerable adults in Muckamore go beyond those concerned in the first review carried out.
"The Belfast Trust need to provide clarification around the circumstances of this SAI to those involved and their families.
"I have been regularly engaging with the Trust with regards to developments on Muckamore and I have raised concerns with the previous SAI report into the facility.
"I met with the Belfast Trust in recent weeks to discuss developments in Muckamore but I was not made aware of this new SAI investigation.
"The Belfast Trust’s previous SAI report-which has yet to be published-was seriously lacking, particularly with regard to involving families of those affected in shaping the terms of reference.
"This must not be repeated.
"Deepening concerns around the treatment of patient's in Muckamore adds further weight to calls for a public inquiry."
