Continued lack of Government transparency on Hospital overspend “totally unacceptable” - Jonathan O’Brien TD
Sinn Féin PAC member & Junior Finance Spokesperson Jonathan O’Brien TD has branded the repeated lack of Government transparency regarding the overspend on the national children’s hospital as “totally unacceptable”.
For a number of weeks Deputy O’Brien has requested the minutes of meetings from the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and a number of its subcommittees.
Deputy O’Brien said;
“The blatant lack of transparency from the Department of Health and the Department of Public Expenditure in regard to the ongoing overspend in the National Children’s Hospital is scandalous and unacceptable.
“Continued requests have been made through the Public Accounts Committee, the Health Committee and the office of the Department Secretary General regarding the minutes of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Development Board and its subcommittees in the past number of weeks.
“Officials at the Public Accounts Committee last week promised to provide records of those meetings.
“These same officials as well as Ministers Harris and Donohoe must come clean on the lack of communication to date and release the information requested.
“The lack of transparency from the Government amid the hospital overspend is unacceptable.
“In the public interest, it is imperative that the Department release these documents directly to Committee members as requested and not through media drip feed.”
