Dillon urges victims of institutional abuse to respond to consultation
Sinn Féin Victims spokesperson, Linda Dillon MLA has said that HIA victims must be supported.
Speaking after Sinn Féin submitted its response to the consultation on the draft legislation on the Commissioner for Survivors of Institutional Childhood Abuse; the Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board and the Compensation Scheme, Linda Dillon said:
“It is vitally important the victims of Institutional abuse and those supporting them make their views known on these very important issues.
“I know from my ongoing engagement with victims and survivors of institutional abuse that they have concerns about how the process has been conducted to date.
“However, I would urge them to respond to the consultation in whatever way they feel is appropriate.
“The victims of institutional abuse have been waiting a very long time to see the recommendations of the Hart Report implemented.
“There are some areas where we feel the recommendations could be improved and we have made our views known to the Department in our response.
“It is vitally important at this stage that the needs of the victims and survivors are met and funding is made available in the next budget round to ensure this happens.”
