Minister Ross must clarify reports of €30million cut to Department of Transport budget - Imelda Munster TD
Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Transport, Tourism and Sport Imelda Munster TD has called on Transport Minister Shane Ross to clarify reports this evening that €30million will be cut from his department’s capital budget as a result of the overspend on the National Children’s Hospital.
Deputy Munster said;
“Minister Ross needs to provide details immediately of the plans the government has to cut funding for transport.
“We need to know if the reports are accurate, and if so, exactly what projects are going to be cut.
“It does not come as a huge surprise that Minister Ross’s department has been targeted, given his obvious lack of interest in his brief and his long-standing inability to secure adequate funding for his department, which remains underfunded three years into his term.
“In Budget 2019 the department’s capital funding was cut by €30million, and now it appears that this figure could double.
“This shows the outcomes of Minister Harris’s mismanagement of the Children’s Hospital project.
“As a result of the government’s incompetence, tax-payers will suffer as vital infrastructure projects are cut.
"Today Sinn Féin outlines a €2billion package of measures to help protect Ireland from the potential economic damage of a crash Brexit.
"This included using funds from the rainy day fund. Meanwhile we have a government preparing the axe for cuts in capital expenditure across eight departments."
