Minister’s anaemic apology simply not good enough – Mary Lou McDonald TD

12 February, 2019 - by Mary Lou McDonald TD

Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has described today’s apology by the Minister for Health as “anaemic” and that it is “simply not good enough”.
Ms McDonald said:
“The anaemic apology given by Minister Harris to the Dáil today is simply not good enough.
“It beggars belief that the government and Fianna Fáil should think that this insult to the electorate would suffice in the face of a €450 million overspend at the National Childrens’ Hospital.
“Minister Harris appears to be a serial apologiser. What else is he sorry for? Hundreds of people lying on trolleys every day? Children spending years on waiting lists? The recruitment and retention crisis in nursing and midwifery?
“The Minister and indeed the Government’s record on health is nothing short of shambolic. And this time ‘sorry’ is not enough.

"This catastrophic overspend needs to be the last straw in this litany of failures at the Department of Health under his stewardship.
“The Minister has to go. He needs to be removed from office and I again appeal to the Fianna Fáil leader to stop protecting this government and back the Sinn Féin motion of no confidence.”
