Sinn Féin calls for introduction of Domestic Homicide Reviews - Mary Lou McDonald TD
The Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has called for the introduction of statutory multi- agency Domestic Homicide Reviews.
Ms McDonald made the call following the airing of an interview with members of Clodagh Hawe’s family who also called for a review of the Coroner’s Act and laws surrounding exhumations, as well changes to the Succession Act.
The Sinn Féin President echoed those calls and told the Taoiseach:
“Anybody who saw last night’s programme will have been deeply affected by their heart-breaking story, the issues they have raised in respect of the subsequent investigation and the unanswered questions that remain for them almost three years on.
“I want to extend to Clodagh’s family and friends, and those of and Liam, Niall and Ryan, my deepest and sincerest sympathies.
“As legislators, there is an onus on us to ensure there are the necessary statutory provisions are in place to understand why these types of domestic violent crimes occur. The Government must now consider the introduction of statutory multi-agency domestic homicide reviews.
“It is very clear from the testimony of Clodagh’s family last night that they need answers to the questions they have surrounding her murder and the murder of her children. The onus is now on the Minister for Justice to ensure they get the answers they need.”
