Assembly women’s caucus vital in fight for equality’ — Fearon
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has said the Assembly women’s caucus is a vital platform to advance the campaign for women’s equality.
Commenting after her election as chair of the caucus, the Newry/Armagh MLA said:
“I am honoured to have been elected chair of the cross-party Assembly women’s caucus.
"Women play a vital role in every aspect of our society and it is only fitting that the voice of women should be heard at the highest levels of politics.
“Last year was historic for Irish women, we have seen great change particularly with the Repeal of the Eighth Amendment back and the centenary of women’s suffrage.
“However, women’s rights are still under attack, women still are refused equal pay, denied equal representation and access to proper healthcare.
“There is much to be done to tackle issues that face women in Ireland — the women’s caucus is a vital platform to advance the campaign for equality across Ireland.”
