Archibald welcomes update on Glenrandal bridge
Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed an update from the Department of Infrastructure on the replacement of Glenrandal bridge near Park, which confirms that funding is currently in place for the replacement.The East Derrry MLA said:“I welcome confirmation from the Department of Infrastructure that is the funding is currently in place for the replacement of Glenrandal Bridge.“The Glenrandal Bridge was damaged beyond repair requiring complete replacement during the August 2017 floods.“The planning application for listed building consent has been submitted to Derry City and Strabane District Council and a decision is expected soon."The replacement of Glenrandel bridge has been delayed because as this is a Listed Bridge within an Area of Special Scientific Interest/Special Area of Conservation.“At this stage the design of the new bridge and realignment of the adjacent road is at an advanced stage with an assessment to determine the extent of any vehicle restraint systems ongoing.
"The delay to the bridge repair has led to a sense of frustration in the local community as residents lives have been disrupted for more than a year now. I will continue to seek regular updates and press for this work to be completed as quickly as possible.
“The Department has now indicated the work on the bridge replacement will commence in the Autumn."
