Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has welcomed the announcement of a pilot programme in student mental health services in Belfast.

Speaking on the announcement of an investment of £150,000 in a pilot programme between the Belfast health and social care trust, Queen's University and Ulster University the party's Further and Higher Education spokesperson said,"This investment to improve links between on campus support and NHS care is an important one."It comes on the back of surveys showing high numbers of students reporting mental health problems, which impact on both their health and their studies."Access to appropriate support and referrals to medical professionals when necessary have been consistently highlighted by Student Unions reps as areas to be addressed."This pilot programme is an important step in the right direction in ensuring students receive the help and support they need."It is also important that students are encouraged to seek help and to be more of aware of their own, and others, mental health and emotional well-being."
