16 October, 2005

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP will be in South Africa this week following an official invitation from the South African Minister for Foreign Affairs Dlamini Zuma.

The Sinn Féin President will meet the South African President Thabo Mbeki on Wednesday in Pretoria, as well as hold separate meetings with the Foreign Affairs Minister and other members of the South African government.

He will also meet with the leadership of the ANC. And on Thursday he will meet Cyril Ramaphosa and Roelf Meyer.

On Friday the Sinn Féin President will meet Fr. Barney McAleer whose Love of Christ Ministries runs a number of projects in the townships helping those afflicted by Aids. This includes a baby hostel for abandoned HIV/Aids babies.

The South African visit will provide the Sinn Féin President with an opportunity to thank President Mbeki and his government for all their help and encouragement throughout the Irish peace process. ENDS
