Patients languishing on trolleys the legacy of this government – O’Brien
Sinn Féin TD Jonathan O’Brien has said the image of hundreds of thousands of people left to languish on hospital trolleys will be the legacy of the Fine Gael government.
The Cork North-Central TD said:
“Today, there are 580 people waiting on trolleys across the state, 47 of them in Cork University Hospital.
“These numbers represent genuine human suffering. These are people who require care and treatment in some of their darkest days.
“This government seems to only care about telling us how much good work they have done. Clearly, it is nowhere near enough.
“This government, and Minister Simon Harris in particular, clearly have no grasp of the depth of the crises in Ireland today.
“Their punitive austerity agenda continues to hurt people today as an under resourced and mismanaged health service struggles to cope.
“The standard Fine Gael procedure of hiding beneath the covers until they have good news to announce will not cut it here.
“The government needs to work with the health professionals and unions to address the systemic problems in the health service and get patients off trolleys and into hospital beds.”
