Flynn presses Belfast Trust to progress crisis centre
Sinn Féin MLA Órlaithí Flynn has pressed the Belfast Trust on the need to progress the opening of the long overdue Belfast crisis de-escalation centre.
The West Belfast MLA said:
“I welcome confirmation from the Belfast Trust that the Belfast crisis de-escalation centre will be fully operational before the end of March.
“Sinn Féin have long been campaigning for the crisis de-escalation centres in Derry and Belfast.
“It has taken considerable effort by all agencies and organisations involved to bring the project this far especially following delays and the potential risks to the transformational funding.
“If we can avoid long waits in emergency departments for those in emotional crisis we can help to ensure their needs are met by a caring and responsive service.
“We pressed the Belfast Trust on the need to ensure that those accessing mental health and addiction services do not find themselves facing lengthy waiting lists.
“The crisis de-escalation centre will play a role in helping to keep some of the most vulnerable safe but it needs community and statutory services that can provide the right treatment quickly.”
