Irish Government commitment to support family of murdered Cllr Patsy Kelly welcomed - Órfhlaith Begley MP
Sinn Féin MP for West Tyrone Órfhlaith Begley has welcomed the Irish government’s commitment to support the family of murdered Independent Nationalist Councillor Patsy Kelly in their quest for truth and justice.
Following a meeting between Patsy Kelly’s family and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Órfhlaith Begley said:
“I welcome Tánaiste Simon Coveney’s commitment to supporting the Kelly family in their fight for truth and justice, by engaging with the British Government.
“Patsy Kelly was abducted and murdered over 44 years ago, allegedly my members of a UDR patrol. The British state and their agencies continue to deny the family the right to truth and justice by failing to fully disclose all files held by both British police and military.
“Information which came to light last year by way of a freedom of information request was further evidence that the British state covered-up Patsy Kelly’s murder.
"The Kelly family remain committed to seeking the truth about the abduction and murder of a husband, father and community representative."
