Sinn Féin President writes to Taoiseach following Israeli attacks on Gaza
The Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has condemned Israel’s latest escalation of attacks on Gaza.
Deputy McDonald has written to An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar urging him to use all diplomatic channels and actions to call for an immediate end to the attacks.
Speaking today, the Sinn Féin President said:
“At the end of last year I visited Palestine and witnessed at first hand the reality of the Israeli occupation there.
“Gaza remains a densely populated, impoverished and besieged region of the Palestinian State.
"It has in the past faced intensive bombardment from Israeli forces and continues to experience an illegal blockade.
“The attacks by Israel this week represent an escalation of conflict at a time of heightened tensions.
“I have written to the Taoiseach and urged him to use all diplomatic channels and actions to call for an immediate end to the attacks, to lift the blockage of Gaza and to secure the rights of Palestinians to full and sustainable statehood.”
