Shell putting two fingers up to Irish public - Ó Snodaigh
Sinn Féin TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called on the National Public Procurement Policy Unit to remove an advertisement by Shell E&P Ireland Limited for tenders on its public procurement website.
The public procurement website has been developed as part of the Government’s Action Plan on Implementing the Information Society in Ireland. It is supposed to be a central facility for all public sector contracting authorities to advertise procurement opportunities and award notices. Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, “Last time I looked Shell were not a public sector contracting authority.”
Speaking today Deputy he said, “All work on the Corrib Gas Project is supposed to be suspended pending a hearing. The fact that Shell has advertised for tenders shows that they have pre-empted the result of that hearing.
“But by advertising on the Government’s public procurement website they are putting two fingers up to the Irish public. This website was set up by the Government to facilitate public sector contracting authorities to advertise procurement opportunities. The last time I looked Shell was not a public sector contracting authority. The National Procurement Policy Unit who run the website should take the advertisement down and I am calling on them to do exactly that.” ENDS
