Government chooses to side with landlords over ordinary working families – Mary Lou McDonald
Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald has hit out at the government for their inaction on the rental crisis.
Ms McDonald accused the Taoiseach of “taking the side of the landlords over ordinary working families".
Speaking following Leaders’ Questions in the Dáil the Sinn Féin President said:
“Last week I raised with the Taoiseach the damning report from the UN in respect of the government’s record on housing.
“In response the Taoiseach showed just how out of touch he really is and refused to recognise the impact of his failing housing policies.
"This government is failing abysmally to tackle the rental crisis and chooses to take the side of landlords over ordinary working families.
“The Government should prioritise giving renters a break through a rent freeze, through a tax relief for renters and through policies which are grounded in providing for ordinary people over the interests of landlords.
“Crucially the Taoiseach should support the Sinn Féin Bill which will be voted on tomorrow and would prevent families from being evicted into homelessness.”
