Sinn Féin to stand second candidate in Botanic
Sinn Féin MLA Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has welcomed the selection of a second Sinn Féin candidate to contest the Council elections in the Botanic District Electoral Area of South Belfast.Welcoming Caitríona Mallaghan to the South Belfast Sinn Féin team, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir said:"This is a significant development for Sinn Féin in South Belfast which shows the growth of the party in the constituency and the growing endorsement of the republican message of equality."This will be the first election in which we will fight for two seats in a single DEA in South Belfast."Accepting her nomination, Catríona Mallaghan said:"It is a great honour for me to be selected to contest this election for Sinn Féin."As a 20 year old medical student at Queens University, and a future doctor, I am very concerned about the state of the health service and believe better health facilities within communities are a way to take some of the pressure off of hospitals. "As a young person living in Belfast, mental health facilities are incredibly important to me considering the suicide epidemic we are facing. I would advocate for a transitional service for 18-24 year olds to ease the transition into adult mental health services where many young people end up feeling lost and abandoned."I believe that local government can play an important role in advocating for better services such as these."I am also part of a new generation of republicans who are determined to continue the work of our predecessors in ensuring that Belfast is truly a city for all its residents."
