All-Ireland response to Avian Flu long overdue
Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson, John O'Dowd has welcomed the establishment of a joint working group between the North's Department of Health and the South's Department of Health and Children to deal with the Avian Flu.
Mr O'Dowd said:
"Since the beginning of the year Sinn Féin has been demanding a co-ordinated response to the possible threat of Avian Flu. While confirmation that a joint working group between the North's Department of Health and the South's Department of Health and Children is welcome it is also long overdue.
"I particularly welcome the recognition that any flu pandemic would not stop at the border and therefore it is imperative that government departments need to work together.
"We need to see all government departments come up to speed on this issue, particularly in the areas of health and agriculture and to develop, not just the joined up approach between government departments and agencies within the north but also on an all-Ireland basis." ENDS
