Passport service needs broader delivery across Ireland – Ó Donnghaile
Speaking after staff from the Passport Office updated Oireachtas members on a record-breaking year, Sinn Féin Senator Niall Ó Donnghaile has commended the staff for their work and reiterated his call that the Department broaden service delivery across Ireland by opening a Passport Office in the north.
Speaking from Leinster House today Seanadóir Ó Donnghaile said:
“It has been a record-breaking period for the Passport Office with over three hundred thousand applications this year already.
“There’s no doubt staff themselves have gone above and beyond the call of duty to meet the unprecedented and historic demand for passports from across Ireland and throughout the world.
“Such a significant upsurge in demand requires a considered, strategic approach from the Department of Foreign Affairs. Very often people who apply for passports often need to talk directly with the service.
“This can be addressed through better infrastructure and delivery across Ireland - the most sensible outworking of that is to open a Passport Office in the north.”
