McMullan concerned at cliff path closure

12 April, 2019 - by Oliver McMullan

Sinn Fein candidate for the Glens Oliver McMullan has raised concerns regarding the length of time the cliff path walk in Cushendall will be closed.

Speaking after the Council placed a temporary closure order for repairs to the scenic walk, he commented: “The cliff path is one of the most scenic walks in the Glens of Antrim and it is enjoyed by many locals and visitors alike."This fact has been recognised by the council itself in its communications to local representatives."While I welcome the Council's move to begin repairs to a number of footbridges on the cliff path it is concerning that the route is proposed to remain closed until the 9th of July when the summer season will already be in full swing."May and June will see a seasonal increase in the number of people visiting the locality, and more in the community accessing local out door amenities."This will undoubtedly increase demand to access the cliff path, which is one of our most popular walks."I will be pressing the Council to expedite repair work to ensure it is completed before July."It is important the path is open and accessible to the public for as much of the summer season as possible."
