Sinn Féin will Defend Irish Neutrality – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD, Lynn Boylan MEP
- Defending Irish Neutrality (6 MB)
Speaking today at the publication of the “Defending Irish Neutrality” document with Lynn Boylan MEP, Teachta Ó Snodaigh said:
“We have seen the flip flopping of Labour, the Independent Alliance and the consistent erosion of our neutrality by successive Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael led Governments.
“Since 1992 the Irish Government has stood over actions that have undermined our neutrality, supported by Labour, Fianna Fáil and the Independent Alliance.
“Fine Gael MEPs have become cheerleaders for the European Militarisation agenda.
“Just last week the Irish people were once more denied their say in a referendum on this issue.
“Sinn Féin is the only party that can be trusted to defend Irish Neutrality.
“Our MEPs have consistently voted against measures that lead us closer to the EU army that several prominent leaders across Europe are blatantly working towards.
“Our plan would ensure that Ireland’s reputation as a strong peacekeeper is upheld and respected, that Shannon Airport would no longer be used as a military base for US soldiers, that the 'Triple Lock' is implemented in full and that our position as a neutral state is affirmed and respected by the EU.”
