Sinn Féin supports 'Raise The Roof' May 18th rally - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin said his party "fully supports" the May 18th 'Raise The Roof' march and rally, and would be urging all those affected by or concerned by the failures of Government housing policy to attend.
Speaking after 'Raise The Roof' formally launched the housing demo, Deputy Ó Broin said:
“Today the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, the Union of Students of Ireland, the National Womens Council of Ireland and Fr Peter McVerry formally launched the May 18th Raise The Roof Housing Rally.
“At the event they called for a radical change in Government policy to tackle the housing and homelessness crisis.
"Recommendations to the government included including increased investment in public housing on public land to meet social, affordable and student housing need.
"They also are calling for a constitutional right to housing; emergency measures to tackle the flow of families into homelessness and the spiralling cost of rents.
“Sinn Féin fully supports this mobilisation and will be urging all our activists and election candidates to promote the event when they are out on the doors canvassing in the coming weeks.
“It is clear that the Government will only start to listen when we have tens of thousands of people on the streets.
"May 18th in Dublin provides just that opportunity. Sinn Féin is urging all those affected by and concerned with the failures of Government housing policy to spread the word, and to attend on the day.”
