Sending of emergency response unit and extra Gardaí to Drogheda 'welcomed' - Gerry Adams TD
Sinn Féin Louth TD Gerry Adams has welcomed the decision of the Garda Commissioner to send the emergency response unit to Drogheda and to allocate 25 new Gardaí to the town next month.
Deputy Adams said:
“The significant escalation in violence and intimidation by drug gangs demands a robust response from the Garda. I therefore welcome today’s announcements.
“However, the drug crisis and the associated violence it brings from gangs extends beyond Drogheda.
“In recent months my colleagues and I have dealt with a number of families in the north Louth area that have been the victims of threats and attacks from these drug gangs.
“The gangs are demanding money from families for alleged drug debts of individual family members.
“I would urge the Garda Commissioner to address this issue as a Louth issue and ensure that any additional resources of personnel be extended to the whole constituency.”
