Confusion over independent local candidate with same name as TD - Eoin Ó Broin
Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Mid West Eoin Ó Broin has said he wont be voting a local candidate with the same name as himself in this months local elections.
The statement was made following the entry into the Council race of a Clondalkin based independent candidate under the name of Eoin Ó Broin.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“Dublin Mid West Sinn Féin is hoping to increase our representation on South Dublin County Council to five this May. We have a strong slate of candidates including Derren Ó Brádaigh in Lucan, Mark Ward and Danny O’Brien in Fonthill/Palmerstown and William Carey and Lisa Kinsella-Colman in Clondalkin.
“The entry into the race of a Clondalkin based independent candidate called Eoin Ó Broin has caused a little confusion. Some people are asking if I have left Sinn Féin and am running for the Council.
“The remove any doubt I have not left Sinn Féin, I am not going independent and I am not running in May's Council elections.
“I wont be voting for the independent Eoin Ó Broin candidate. He is a decent guy but isolated independents can not deliver real change whether in the Council, the Dáil or the European Parliament.
“The only way to deliver the change that Dublin Mid West and Clondalkin need is to return the biggest and strongest team of Sinn Féin elected representatives.
“I am urging Sinn Féin supporters in Bawnogue and Newcastle/Rathcoole/Brittas/Saggart to vote Lisa Kinsella-Colman No 1 and Willian Carey No 2 and Sinn Féin voters in Sruleen, St Johns, Clondalkin Village and the Dutch Village to vote William Carey No 1 and Lisa Kinsella Colman No 2.
“I am also urging all Sinn Féin voters to vote Lynn Boylan MEP No 1 in the European Parliament elections.”
