Gerry Adams TD welcomes new US visa Bill

1 May, 2019 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin Louth TD Gerry Adams has welcomed the introduction of a Bill into the US Congress that would give Irish citizens access to the E-3 visa programme.

The Bill – To add Ireland to the E-3 non-immigrant visa program - was introduced by senior US Congress member Richard Neal, who was recently in Ireland as part of a congressional delegation led by the Speak of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Teachta Adams said:

“I met Congressman Neal recently during the very successful Co-del (Congressional Delegation) visit to Ireland.

"He is Chair of the Friends of Ireland group in the Congress and has been a long standing supporter of the peace process.

"Congress member Neal has been a long-time advocate of immigration reform that would benefit Irish citizens seeking employment in the USA

"Every year, over ten thousand E-3 visas are offered to Australians who want to work in the US.

"However, only about half of these are used. The hope is that if the Bill passes through the Congress and Senate that Irish citizens will be able to access the remaining number of unused visas."
