Murphy reiterates call for higher motorway fencing
Sinn Féin Councillor Ryan Murphy has reiterated calls for fencing on the West Link bridges to be urgently made higher to prevent people from jumping.
The call comes after a woman was severely injured on Wednesday night.
The North Belfast Councillor said:
“My immediate thoughts are with the woman injured tonight and her family - I hope she makes a full recovery.
“There have been a number of incidents on these bridges in recent years and this reinforces the need for higher fencing around the bridges at the West Link.
“Sinn Féin have written to the Department of Infrastructure urging them to install higher fencing, however, so far they have refused.
“Thankfully tonight’s incident did not result in a fatality, however, this could have been much worse.
“The Department have a duty of care to address this issue before someone else is seriously hurt or killed.”
