Kelly slams those behind death threat to Sinn Féin official
Sinn Féin Policing and Justice Spokesperson Gerry Kelly has slammed those responsible for death threats to Sinn Féin official Sam Baker in Belfast last night.
Gerry Kelly said:
“The PSNI went to the home of Sinn Féin party official Sam Baker last night and warned him of a death threat from so-called Republican ‘dissidents’.
“The threats were delivered shortly after the party member arrived home following yesterday’s council election counts in City Hall.
“The man targeted by the threats and his family are currently caring for their mother who is very seriously ill.
“This latest death threat follows on the heels of death threats made to the community in Derry by the group which murdered journalist Lyra McKee only two weeks ago.
“These death threats are despicable and cowardly.
“Those responsible have been rejected by the community, and they don’t even have the courage to put themselves or their spokespersons before the electorate.
“They need to disband and end their futile actions immediately.
“They certainly won’t deflect or intimidate Sinn Féin from working for our communities and to achieve a new and agreed united Ireland.”
