Lynn Boylan MEP urges people to support ‘Raise the Roof’ rally

8 May, 2019 - by Lynn Boylan MEP

Sinn Féin MEP for Dublin Lynn Boylan has urged people to support the upcoming ‘Raise the Roof’ rally and to send a message to the Government that their housing policy is failing ordinary people right across Dublin.

Ms Boylan was speaking as Sinn Féin unveiled a mobile banner showing Sinn Féin’s support for the Raise the Roof campaign.

Ms. Boylan said;

“Government policy is clearly failing to deliver on housing, each month the number of people entering into homelessness continues to rise.

“We need a radical change of direction to tackle the housing and homelessness crisis.

"May 18th Dublin provides us with that opportunity. Sinn Féin urge as many people as possible to take to the street and support the Raise the Roof march.

“Until the Government accepts that Rebuilding Ireland is not working, and implements a new housing policy, things are going to continue to get worse.

“We believe that in order to tackle the housing crisis, we need to freeze rents, increase investment in public housing and a referendum on a constitutional right to housing.

“Sinn Féin fully support this mobilisation and will be attending in large numbers. Our activists and election candidates will be promoting the event when they are out on the doors canvassing in the coming weeks.

“It is clear that the Government will only start to listen when we have tens of thousands of people on the streets, it’s time to send them a message that their policy has to change.”
