Sinn Féin support the Housing Alliance proposals - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD supports the proposals launched today by the Housing Alliance, a collaboration of six of Ireland’s largest Approved Housing Bodies, that aims to increase the delivery of more social and affordable homes.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The Housing Alliance today made it clear that their sector is keen to support the increased delivery of social and affordable homes.
“They have however identified three obstacles to increasing its capacity and has today urged the government to take urgent action in three key areas.
“The government must outline what steps it is taking to reclassify Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) as off-balance sheet. Eurostat is off the view that fourteen of the largest AHBs were part of the general government sector and deemed them to be on balance sheet over a year ago.
“Opposition parties have also been calling for the government to outline a timeline for addressing the issue.
“The Housing Alliance is also calling for sustainable affordable rental and cost rental schemes to be rolled out and for existing barriers, including access to cashflow, to be removed to ensure the timely delivery of homes by Approved Housing Bodies."
