Public meeting to be held on Irish reunification
A public meeting is to take place in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, Co. Mayo on Friday 4th November at 8pm to discuss issues surrounding the practicality and eventuality of Irish unity.
The meeting being organised by Sinn Féin forms part of a series of meetings on the topic being held in every county on the island. Sinn Féin County Councillor Gerry Murray believes it is both necessary and prudent for the Irish people to engage on the shape, form and nature that a re-united Ireland will take.
Councillor Murray said, "This meeting is about consulting and engaging with all levels of the Irish public to gauge what shape they see a united Ireland taking and to answer any queries that may exist on this subject as unity will affect all sections of our society, for the better in our opinion.
"It is Sinn Féin‚s hope that An Taoiseach will commission a Green Paper on Irish unity within one year. This series of public meetings is our way of aiding the discussion process that is vital in securing support for unity.
"Sinn Féin is inviting NGOs, public representatives and members of all groups and the public to attend the meeting. "ENDS
