The Southeast needs 24/7 Emergency Cardiac services - David Cullinane TD
Sinn Féin TD for Waterford David Cullinane has joined thousands of people from the Southeast today in a rally for enhanced cardiac services for the region.
Deputy Cullinane said a fully functioning second Cath Lab and 24/7 Emergency PPCI services are vital for patient safety in the region.
Speaking from the rally Deputy Cullinane said:
“The people of the Southeast are justly demanding fair and equitable health services.
"We want University Hospital Waterford (UHW) to have the capacity it needs to treat all patients in a safe and timely manner.
"The absence of 24/7 Emergency PPCI services is a wrong that must be put right.
“The recent controversy surrounding the mortuary in Waterford has again reminded people of the shocking lack of capacity in regional health care.
"UHW also has high wait times for key specialities such as ENT, Ophthalmology and Orthopaedics.
“Staff and management at the hospital must be given the tools and capacity required to deliver quality, safe and accessible health care for all patients.
"This must require the building of a new fully functioning Cath Lab and 24/7 Emergency Cardiac Care.
"The Minister for Health must listen to the people of the Southeast and deliver.”
