Liadh Ní Riada MEP fights for workers in the European Parliament – Quinlivan
Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan has called on workers to vote for Liadh Ní Riada MEP on the 24th May.
The Limerick City TD said:
“Liadh Ní Riada has a track record in defending and fighting for workers at home and in Europe.
“Liadh has always championed legislation that would ensure decent working conditions in all forms of employment, including a living wage.
“In Ireland and across Europe, many workers are unable to access or afford secure housing or health services due to continuing attack on workers’ rights and pay. Childcare is unaffordable for many forcing people out of the workforce. Low paid precarious work needs to end.
“Included in Liadh's priorities is advancing legislation on the right to collective bargaining and protecting the right to strike and strengthening protections for all workers, especially those in low paid sectors or working atypical hours, on fixed term contracts or working part time.
“Liadh will also passionately fight for the introduction of a social progress clause into the EU treaties in order to ensure that fundamental social rights and collective agreements on pay and conditions take precedence over the freedom of the markets.
“I know that Liadh Ní Riada will continue to fight for workers, and she has reaffirmed this by supporting the Irish Congress of Trade Union’s pledge to fight against the erosion or worker’s rights.
“If voters truly want to see Irish representatives in Europe who will uphold and promote the interests of working people, then I ask them to vote No. 1 for Liadh Ní Riada.”
