Doolan calls on Transport Minister to urgently meet with Dublin City Council

2 November, 2005

Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Daithí Doolan has called on Minister for Transport Martin Cullen to urgently meet with Dublin City Council in relation to 'Transport 21' which was launched in Dublin Castle yesterday.

Councillor Doolan said:

"For years now Dubliners have had to endure traffic chaos caused by chronically underfunded public transport and poor transport planning. There are also growing concerns at threats to privatise Dublin Bus.

"Transport 21 has huge implications for Dublin City and it is incredible that the Minister announced these proposals without any consultation with Dublin City Council. It is worth nothing that members of Dublin City‚s Transport Strategic Policy Committee weren‚t even invited to the launch.

"I want to call on the Transport Minister to urgently meet with Dublin City Council to discuss these proposals and their implications for the city over the next decade." ENDS
