Minister rejects Airbnb push to delay introduction of short-term letting regulations - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has welcomed confirmation from Minister Murphy today that the government will not delay the introduction of the short-term letting regulations on foot of lobbying from Airbnb.
The confirmation came after Deputy Ó Broin questioned the Minister during questions on promised legislation today.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“Last Friday Catherine Sanz reported in the Times Ireland edition that Airbnb was trying to pressurise Minister Murphy to delay the introduction of the new rules.
“The Minister for Housing confirmed today on the floor of the Dáil that the long-awaited short-term letting regulations will in fact come into effect by the 1st July deadline, subject to approval by the Oireachtas this week.
“The deadline for the introduction of these regulations has already been extended by one month and it should not be delayed any further.
“Tomorrow morning the Housing Committee will scrutinise the new regulations before they go to the floor of the Dáil for approval, which should be done as quickly as possible.”
