Maskey welcomes ruling on Loughinisland journalists case
Sinn Féin MP Paul Maskey has said a ruling that the High Court is minded to quash the warrants to search the offices of investigative journalists exposing collusion represents a victory for press freedom.
Paul Maskey said:
"Today at the High Court the judges have said they are minded to quash the search warrants used in the arrest of investigative journalists Barry McCaffrey and Trevor Birney.
"This is a victory for press freedom and vindicates the position of both journalists.
"These journalists were doing their job and providing a important service by shining a light on state collusion in the Loughinisland massacre.
"The British state cannot be allowed to cover its role or the role of its agents and proxies in loyalist death squads during the conflict.”
