Ó Donnell calls on PSNI to implement interface strategy

25 June, 2019 - by Mairead O’Donnell

Sinn Féin East Belfast Representative Mairead Ó Donnell has expressed concern at the rise in interface incidents and has called on the PSNI to implement their interface strategy to help prevent further incidents.Mairead O'Donnell said:"This is the second night in a row where residents in Clandeboye in the Short Strand have experienced attacks on their homes.“Last night Bryson Street residents experienced similar incidents and a number of cars were damaged as a result.“All and any public disorder along the interface is wrong and unjustifiable regardless of the source.“I would appeal to parents to speak with their children and ensure that they are not hanging around parts of the community where they could be caught up in any of these incidents.“I further call on the PSNI to immediately implement their interface strategy.“Only a few weeks ago I met with the new East Belfast District Commander and voiced the concerns of the community that there had been an increase in young people gathering at the interface as a result of prearranged fights being organised.“I asked at that time that they implement their interface strategy.“Following the past few nights it is now a matter of urgency that the PSNI provide adequate resources to police the interface and ensure the safety of residents and their homes."Get Outlook for iOS
