Foyle Food Group's Cookstown plant closure 'huge blow' - O’Neill

25 June, 2019 - by Michelle O'Neill

Sinn Féin Leas Uachtarán Michelle O’Neill said today she is seeking urgent talks with the Foyle Food Group after it announced plans to close a plant in Cookstown where more than 80 people are employed.

Michelle O’Neill said:

“This news that the Foyle Food Group’s plant at the Derryloran Industrial Centre in Cookstown is set to close has come as a huge blow.

“More than 80 people are currently employed at the plant.

“I am concerned about the scale of potential job losses and the impact on workers’ families and the wider local economy in Cookstown.

“The company has said it plans to redeploy as many staff as possible, so the company needs to consult as quickly as possible with the workers and their trade unions.

“My party colleague Councillor John McNamee and I have requested an urgent meeting with senior management at the Foyle Food Group following the announcement to ensure that workers at the plant get all the help they are entitled to.”
