Fearon seeks clarity on referral of patients from north for abortion services in Britain
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has written to the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health regarding the referral of patients from the north to abortion services in Britain.
The party’s equality spokesperson said:
“The Women and Equalities Committee inquiry recently published its report which included a number of recommendations into abortion law in the north.
“I have written to the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health and asked him what instruction, guidance and information is currently being provided to health and social care professionals that will assist them in providing the required support and information to women who may need to access abortion services in Britain?
“It is crucial that health professionals are free to treat their patients without fear of criminal conviction.”
