British MPs must recognise disastrous impact of no deal Brexit - Brady

27 June, 2019 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Fein MP Mickey Brady has said British MPs need to recognise the disastrous impact a no deal Brexit would have on the north.

The Newry and Armagh MP said:

“Today my Sinn Fein MP colleague Elisha McCallion and I attended the Oireachtas committee on the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement in Leinster House which was also attended by representatives from the Westminster committee that deals with the north.

“We had a useful discussion on Brexit and I made it clear to MPs present that a no deal Brexit would be disastrous for the north.

“The only way to avoid a crash out no deal Brexit is through the Withdrawal Agreement and the backstop it contains as it is the only deal on the table.

“It is time the Tories and the British Parliament realised that and stopped deluding themselves with fantasy proposals and suggestions.

“It is the north, and border constituencies in particular, that will bear the brunt of the reckless Tory Brexit agenda.

“The Irish government needs to step up and ensure that the Good Friday Agreement and the rights of people in the north are not undermined by Brexit.”
