Archibald calls for the removal of parachute regiment flag
Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has called for the controversial British army parachute regiment flag erected in Coleraine Town Centre to be taken down.
Caoimhe Archibald said:
"The appearance of a controversial parachute regiment flag at the bottom of Coleraine Town Centre follows the erection of a ‘Soldier F’ banner in recent days and has caused considerable concern among locals and visitors to the borough.
“These banners and flags are designed to intimidate and cause offence, particularly when they are at interfaces or shared areas.
“Causeway Coast and Glens is due to host ‘The Open’ in a couple of weeks and with thousands of tourists expected this is not the type of message we want to be projecting.
“It is time for political unionism to show some leadership and call for these intimidatory banners and flags to come down once and for all and show that the borough is an open and inclusive space for all.
"I am calling on those responsible for putting up these flags to take them down as a matter of urgency."
