May homeless figures ‘cold comfort’ for families - Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has said the government “should not get carried away” with the slight 1.2% drop in those living in emergency accommodation in May, compared to April this year.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The May homeless figures released by the Department of Housing show that the number of those living in state funded emergency accommodation is down 1.2%, a small drop on April’s figures.
“There are now 10,253 people officially classified as homeless by the Department of Housing, including 3,749 children.
“While small decrease in the number of homeless children and homeless adults is welcome, unfortunately it is of cold comfort to the families facing into school holidays in emergency accommodation.
