Begley calls for removal of parachute regiment flags
Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has called for the removal of a British army parachute regiment flag that has recently been erected in Omagh town.
The West Tyrone MP said:
"The erection of the flag in support of the British army’s parachute regiment on the Hospital Road in Omagh is designed to intimidate and cause offence.
“Omagh is a focal point of inclusivity and welcoming events for visitors from near and far and just last week as it hosted the Omagh Food Festival and Tyrone Fleadh.
“The inclusive nature of these events is in stark contrast to the intention of why this flag has been erected. This is not the type of message that we want to be projecting to visitors coming to the area.
“Flags of this nature are insensitive and hurtful and I am calling on those responsible for erecting the flag to remove it immediately.”
