Sinn Féin to move Private Members Dáil motion seeking rejection of Mercosur deal
Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny has announced that his party will move a private members motion in the Dáil next week which calls for the rejection of the Mercosur deal.
Speaking from Leinster House today Teachta Kenny said;
“The Mercosur deal is a sell-out of the Irish beef sector with huge implications for rural Ireland.
“Sinn Féin believes that the deal should be rejected by the government and we are disappointed that, so far, we have had no such commitment.
“We will move a motion in the Dáil next week that calls on the government to vote against the deal at European Council and to immediately begin building a coalition across the European Union to ensure that this deal is rejected.
“Ireland’s interests must be prioritised in all engagements on this matter and that includes the appointment of Ireland’s next European Commissioner.”
