Mitchell welcomes opportunity to champion Dublin
Sinn Féin Dublin Bay North TD Denise Mitchell says she is looking forward to her new role as Sinn Féin Spokesperson for Dublin and Junior Housing Spokesperson.
The Dublin Bay North TD made the comments following a reshuffle of the Sinn Féin Oireachtas team by Party President Mary Lou McDonald TD.
Deputy Mitchell said:
“I am very much looking forward to this new role. Communities across Dublin are facing very unique challenges while there is major work to be done in the areas of housing, transport, policing, and the environment. We in Sinn Féin have solutions and a vision for this city and I want to champion them.
“Working with my colleague Eoin Ó Broin TD, we will continue to outline how the provision of social and affordable housing, real rent certainty and affordable cost rental can alleviate the housing crisis. If we do not get to grips with this issue, we will have an entire generation of Dubliners who are not only locked-out of being a home-owner, they will be locked-out of their own city.
“I want to ensure that community organisations, youth groups and sports clubs have the support from government and councils to continue and expand the great work they do at grassroots-level right across the city.
“We in Sinn Féin also want a city where everybody feels safe. Dublin’s population is growing quickly and that presents challenges. We need more frontline gardaí, and particularly community gardaí, to work on the ground. We also need to ensure that An Garda Síochána is properly resourced to do their job.
“We also need to make Dublin a greener city, and that means investment and expansion of our public transport, provision for cycling infrastructure and protecting our environment – particularly the Dublin Bay biosphere.
“I am looking forward to this new and challenging role and in particular to working with our councillors across Dublin to bring about this vision.”
